Francis Schuman

Francis Schuman is currently enrolled in the music program at the University of Massachusetts Amherst pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Education. Francis has been singing in choirs from the young age of six. His musical career includes marching percussion, performing as a vocal soloist in Vivaldi's Gloria with the Salisbury Singers, and music directing for UMass Amherst’s theatre guild. Having studied under Eric Balboni and Dr. Jamie-Rose Guarrine, Francis has placed top 5 in the regional NATS competition multiple times, and strives to be a vocal advocate for the transgender vocal community.

Francis loves all things music, but especially adores Renaissance vocal music and musical theatre. With an interest in transgender voices, Francis’ teaching style reflects his belief in student autonomy and the power of storytelling. He is deeply passionate about teaching, constantly striving to make the lesson room a safe space for all his students while helping to support them on their musical journeys.

In addition to music and teaching, Francis also loves cats, taking long walks, and taking care of his plants.
