Emmet Chilton-Sugerman
Raised in Amherst by two professors of archaeology, Emmet Chilton-Sugerman has always displayed a passion for learning. Starting piano lessons at an early age, Emmet was surrounded by music both academically and through the music community of the Pioneer Valley. In 2023 he graduated from Vassar College with honors in music and correlates in philosophy and English. He enjoys writing musical analysis, poetry, and most other genres in between–practices that inspire and inform his piano playing and teaching. Emmet has studied solo piano performance with Thomas Sauer and Jeewon Park and chamber music with Eduardo Navega. He has performed solo recitals in Binghamton, Poughkeepsie, Seattle, and Western Massachusetts and has taken part in the Vivace! and Amalfi Coast piano festivals. In 2023 Emmet gave his concerto debut with the Vassar College orchestra.
Emmet’s teaching utilizes all the advantages of the one-on-one lesson format. He believes that the individualized space allows a teacher to discover what motivates each student, their unique passions, and what brings them to lesson each week. Emmet's primary goal as a teacher is to help his students find their voice at the piano and hone their abilities so that they may best communicate all they have to say.
